Nigeria’s basketball female team has been scheduled to face Mozambique and a yet to qualify team in Group B of the 2021 women’s Afrobasket slated to hold from September 17 to 27 in Yaounde, Cameroon.
In recent years, the D’ Tigress made one Olympic appearance at 2004 games and lost all the five matches, and also in 2006, they had a winless debut at the world cup.
Over time, they improved in 2018 where they recorded wins over turkey and Argentina. Moving forward, Nigeria won the Afrobasket tournament in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
The Nigeria D’ Tigress has set their hopes so high that for them to lose is something impossible.
Team Captain Adaora Elonu in her speech said the “game against fellow African team, Mozambique is a must-win” and was quick to rule out the possibilities of the team getting complacent when they face Mozambique.
Evelyn Akhator went further to say that “we are aware of the task ahead of us and the expectations back home in Nigeria and amongst our fans”.
Aisha Mohammed Balarabe added that “if it is to give the last pint of our blood while playing Mozambique, we shall”.
Hopefully, they win so the jokes won’t be on them.
